Access:
Castell Henllys Iron Age Fort is located on a spur of land overlooking the valley of a small river. Most visitors gain access to this partially reconstructed fort having purchased their tickets in the visitor centre which is located on a track below the fort.

The track leads through trees to the fort and is steep in places. The track surfaces are of compacted grit to ease access by wheel chair users and push chairs. Mobile phone reception is not good in the valley below the fort but the land lines in the visitor centre may be used if there is need.

A purpose built second car park is located closer to the fort and is accessed by a road to the rear of the site. A map with directions to this car park is available from the visitor centre which has limited disabled parking nearby. From here the route to the fort is shorter (100m), and less steep.

An electric buggy is usually available to carry individuals from the visitor centre to the fort.

A Tramper bike is available for individuals with mobility problems. A map will show which areas of the site are accessible using the Tramper bike. Please ask at Reception where a member of staff will give instructions on how to use the vehicle.

A series of five sculptures that talk about the iron age when a handle is turned have been placed at various locations around the site. These have been designed to facilitate blind or visually impaired visitors as well as other visitors. A purposely designed leaflet about the sculptures is available for these visitors.

A hearing loop is located at the reception desk.

An accessible toilet with a panic alarm is located close to the visitor centre and disabled toilets are located in the exhibition building.

Ramps lead to the accessible toilet and the ground level of the shop. There is wheelchair access to the exhibition building where there is also a tactile cutaway model of a roundhouse.

Large viewing monitors are located in this building for visitors, particularly those who feel unable to access the site, to see real time images of the fort and a nearby stream.
